Katherine Elizabeth Stoeckinger Gladden

Katherine Elizabeth Stoeckinger Gladden 87, passed away December 7, 2006. Katherine was born November 4, 1919 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Franz X. and Mabel (Irion) Stoeckinger.

 

She married Raymond W. Gladden on July 20, 1941 in Mishawaka, Indiana. He passed away April 18, 1999. Katherine was a registered nurse, graduating from St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka in 1941. She had worked for 12 years in Pediatrics at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, before retiring in 1979. Previously, she had been an Industrial Nurse at Allison's, worked in the clinic at Long Hospital, and at St. Francis Hospital. She was always volunteering to help others. Some of her activities were: Republican Precinct Committee Chairperson; St. Mary's Guardian Guild; Butler Women's Club; Camp Fire Girl Leader; Little Flower Women's Club; St. Thomas Aquinas Women's Club; and Robin Run Community Volunteer.

 

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John Martin and Betsy Gladden; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Ann and John E. Duffin; a brother, John H. Stoeckinger; a sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Dr. Victor Johnson, Evansville; a sister-in-law, Janet (Tom) Giunta, Valrico, Florida; a special niece, Judy Meyer; and caring friend, Mary Hank. Many nieces and nephews also survive. She was especially proud of her five grandchildren; John Raymond (Amy) Duffin; Melissa Gladden; Shaun and Ryan Duffin; and Katie (Matt) Garrison. She also had a great grandson, John Matthew Garrison. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brothers, Karl Albert, Gerald Louis, Robert Raymond and Richard Francis.

 

Services will be private. Inurnment will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN. Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, is handling the arrangements. Contributions  may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive, Indianapolis, IN, 46240, of which she was a member.
