Eleanor M. Gleason

May 10, 1913 - Nov. 21, 1999

Eleanor M. Gleason, 86, of Bellwood Nursing Home, Peoria, Ill., formerly of Woodbine Way, South Bend, Ind., died at 10:05 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, in the nursing home.

She was born on May 10, 1913, in South Bend, to Gertrude (Raunbuhler) and Richard Schimmel, who both preceded her in death.

On Feb. 8, 1947, in South Bend, as Eleanor Schimmel, she married Richard Gleason, who survives.

Mrs. Gleason is also survived by a daughter, Janice Kleppe of Peoria; a son, Michael Gleason of LaMirada, Calif.; three grandchildren, Sheila Fink, Joseph and Sharon Kleppe; and by a sister, Katherine Hurrall of Saugus, Calif.

Mrs. Gleason was a retired service representative for the Bell Telephone Company. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, South Bend, the Michiana Tidal Waves, and was a life member of the Epsilon Theta Chapter of the Sigma Alpha Sorority. During World War II she served in the U.S. Navy WAVES.

Services for Mrs. Gleason will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend. Rev. Gregory Fiechtner of St. Paul's Lutheran Church will conduct the services.

Friends may call from 11 to 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 51490 Laurel Road, South Bend, IN 46637.
