Sister M. Rosita Gleason CSC

Sister M. Rosita (Mary Veronica Gleason), CSC, 94, was born in Chicago, Ill., to the late John Gleason and Mary Elizabeth Murphy Gleason. She was also preceded in death by her foster brother, Lawrence Gleason. Sister is survived by her sister, Rita (Joseph P.) Cassidy; nephew, Gerald J. Cassidy; nieces, Patricia (Russell) Clayton, Meribeth (Terry) Schmitt, Rosemary (Thomas) Speaker and Joanne (Thomas) Sanders; nephew, Michael (Patty) Cassidy; and by 13 grand-nieces and nephews, all of Lafayette, Ind.

 

Sister Rosita was a stenographer in Chicago before entering the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1935. She was an elementary and secondary school teacher from 1937 to 1945, and taught in Illinois and Indiana. In 1945 she was in the business office of St. John's Hospital, Anderson, Ind., for one year, and then returned to the classroom in Indiana, Michigan and Illinois. Sister received a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1959, DePaul University, and a master's degree in business administration in 1965 from the University of Notre Dame. She taught business-related subjects at Holy Redeemer, Flint, Mich., St. Mary's, Michigan City, Ind., Marian Central, Woodstock, Ill., and Bishop Noll, Hammond, Ind.

 

After retiring to Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Sister was secretary for the Apostolate Abroad Region and then a volunteer to the community at Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent, South Bend, until her transfer to Saint Mary's. She was active in the ministry of prayer until her death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556.

 

Wake services will be at 9 a.m. today, Feb. 14, in Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today in Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
