Sister Norma Gleason CSC

Sister Norma Gleason (Sister M. Lauretana, CSC), 86, was born in Irvington, N.J., to the late Joseph J. Gleason and Mary Loretta Hynes Gleason. Sister is survived by her sisters, Janet Utermohlen and Mary (Bill) Campbell; and her brother, Richard T. (Alice) Gleason. She is also survived by nieces, Karen Hughes, Susan Daily, Marsha Wilner, Carol Norgarden, all of California, and Mary Patti of Arizona; and nephews, Michael Gleason, Bill Utermohlen, Robert Utermohlen, Greg Campbell and John Gleason, all in California, Joe Utermohlen of Arizona; and by many friends.

 

Before entering the congregation, Sister Norma worked as a secretary and entered the congregation July 16, 1944. She made her first profession in 1947 and final profession 1950. She received her early education in schools in California. Trained as a teacher, Sister taught in the congregation schools in the West, primarily in California, then Idaho and Utah. She taught elementary grades and in 1973 became a tutor, and in 1987 a librarian at St. Barnabas, Long Beach, Calif. She retired to St. Catherine by the Sea, Ventura, Calif., in 1994 and in 2000 transferred to Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Ind., where she was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556.

 

Wake services today, Sept. 9, at 4 p.m., Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, in Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
