John T. Gleissner

Mishawaka – John T. Gleissner, of Washington Avenue, who spent more than two decades in public service, died about 4 p.m. Sunday in St. Joseph Hospital following an illness. He was 78.

 

He served as 4th District Democratic committee-man for 30 years. Mr. Gleissner retired from Uniroyal Plastics Co. after 42 years.

 

He was born April 16, 1915.

 

On Sept. 19, 1942 he married Elizabeth Anne “Betty” Weinkauf. She died March 7, 1992. Surviving are three daughters, Jean A. Gleissner of Mishawaka, Janice Harwood of Harrisburg, N.C., and Marianne E. Ziegenhorn of Wood Dale, Ill.; six sons, John P., Philip J., Charles E. and Paul T., all of Mishawaka, Robert L. of Wheeling, Ill., and Joseph P. of Pittsboro, Ind.; 12 grandchildren, a sister, Elizabeth Nix of Mishawaka, and a brother, Eugene of Shawnee Mission, Kan.

 

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Ushers Club, Mishawaka Penn Township Men’s Democratic Club, Knights of Columbus Council 1878, Kiwanis Club and Uniroyal Retirees.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial park, Granger.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Mishawaka High School Scholarship Fund or St. Joseph Grade School in Mishawaka.
