May 14, 1926 - Jan. 17, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Jane Pearl Glon, 83, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010 in her home surrounded by her family, after suffering a severe stroke on December 23, 2009. Jane was born to Frank and Mary (Gadacz) Geabler in St. Joseph County, Indiana on May 14, 1926. On June 12, 1948 she married Paul R. Glon in St. Stanislaus Church in South Bend. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1993. She is survived by her loving children; Lynnette M.(Allan) Poe of Syracuse, IN, Patricia A. (David) Stump, of Nixa, MO and Raymond L. Glon of South Bend; four grandchildren, Sandra M. Stump of Denver, CO, Sgt Jeffrey A. Poe/USMC of Okinawa, Japan, and Ms. Katherine (Katie) L. Glon of Findlay, OH, and Collier (Coley) T. Glon of South Bend; two sisters, Elaine (Clem) Rzepka of South Bend and Dolores Orosz of Niles, MI; special friends, Betty Sosnoski, Evelyn Williams, and Paula Perkins, her longtime beautician all of South Bend; and by many nieces and nephews. She graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1944, and formerly worked for both O'Brien Paints and J.C. Penney's, from which she retired in 1988 after 21 years of service. She was a wonderful mother and friend, and over the years she maintained close relationships with the 'Penney Ladies'. Jane was an avid sports enthusiast and her favorite teams were the Bulls, Da Bears, and Cubs (after Cub wins, she would always hang out the 'W' flag on the front porch), and of course her beloved Notre Dame. She looked forward to the upcoming Olympics, particularly the ice skating competitions which she enjoyed watching tremendously. If re-incarnation is possible, we know Mom will come back as a professional ice skater someday. She also loved dancing and polka music throughout her lifetime, and often reminisced about having danced a million miles with her many polka partners. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46637. Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, January 21, 2010 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend where a Rosary will be prayed at 3:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Friday, January 22, 2010 in St. Stanislaus Kostka, New Carlisle, IN. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
