Harvey E. Goebel

Harvey E. Goebel, 75 years old, residing on U.S. 31, Lakeville, passed away at 1:30 A.M. on Friday, October 20, 2000, at his home after an extended illness. Mr. Goebel was born on August 17, 1925, in South Bend, to the late John and Beatrice Goebel. He has been a lifelong area resident.

 

On September 3, 1949, in South Bend, he married Beverly J. Goss, who survives. Along with his wife Beverly, survivors include one daughter, Donna (John) Laureys of New Carlisle, IN; one son, David (Susan) Goebel of Plymouth, IN; and one brother, John (June) Goebel of Plainfield, IN.

 

Mr. Goebel was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Woodland, the South Bend- Mishawaka Valley Aires, and the Society for the Presentation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. He served his country with the United States Navy during WW II with two destroyer escorts, the USS Strickland and the USS Jacob Jones. Mr. Goebel retired in 1982 after 35 years with the Bendix Corporation as a Fuel Control Tester in the Aircraft Division.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 24, 2000, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Woodland. Rev. Karl A. Brenner, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Woodland. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to services in the church. Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Contributions in memory of Harvey E. Goebel may be donated to the charity of the donor's choice.
