DeVere D. Goheen

Sept. 11, 1912 - Dec. 16, 2000

DeVere D. Goheen, 88, of South Bend, Ind., passed away following an illness on Saturday, Dec. 16, in Memorial Hospital.

Born on Sept. 11, 1912, in LaPorte, Ind., to the late Leroy and Mary V. (Jones) Goheen. On April 30, 1938, in Bedford, Ind., he married the former Muriel Gaither, who passed away in 1996.

He is survived by a sister, Evelyn (Joe) Pinney of South Bend and Tempe, Ariz.; and by two nieces, Nancy Jo Pinney of South Bend and Kaylyn Kramer of Los Angeles, Calif.

Mr. Goheen graduated from Lakeville High School in 1932, where he played on their basketball team. He graduated from Indiana University School of Law and practiced law in South Bend over 50 years. He belonged to the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at I.U., Indiana Bar Association, was a 50-year member of Lakeville Masonic Lodge #353 F&AM, Lakeville Chapter #479 Order of Eastern Star, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and Mizpah Shrine of Fort Wayne, Ind. DeVere had many interests which ranged from jazz to antique coffee grinders. At the age of 40 he received his private pilot's license and enjoyed flying his Cessna 172.

At his request there will be no services or visitation. Entombment will be at Highland Cemetery.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
