Leo Golubski, Sr.: (South Bend Tribune 12/9/1999)
Feb. 24, 1921-Dec. 8, 1999 Leo Golubski, Sr., age 78, of Quince Rd., South Bend, died at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday in Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on February 24, 1921, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Golubski retired from the former Harold Medow where he worked as an auto mechanic for 23 years. On June 20, 1942, in South Bend, he married Dorothy R. Samp, who preceded him in death on March 31, 1987. Also preceding him in death was his son James J. Golubski, three brothers and six sisters. He is survived by one sister, Anna M. Mason of South Bend, by two daughters, Patricia (Howard) Shell of Plymouth, IN and Rosanne (Joseph) Willis of South Bend; five sons, Leo (Deborah) Golubski Jr., Thomas R. (Laura) Golubski Sr., Robert S. (Cynthia) Golubski, Sr., Michael A. (Kathi) Golubski and Charles E. (Melody) Golubski, all of South Bend; nineteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday in the Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Mr. Golubski was a volunteer for various organizations and in 1998 was awarded the Ameritech RSVP Volunteer of the Year Award, Mental Health Association of St. Joseph County Volunteer of the Year Recognition. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and a former employee of the former Studebaker Corporation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
