Edward C. Gooley

Dec. 4, 1919 - Dec. 6, 2002

Edward C. "Bud" Gooley, 83, residing on Oakland Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 10:27 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. He retired in 1984 from Torrington Company, South Bend, after 43½ years of service.

Mr. Gooley was born on Dec. 4, 1919, in South Bend, to Robert H. and Magdalene (Steif) Gooley, and was a lifelong area resident. His first wife, Mary Keefer, preceded in death on Nov. 22, 1957. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta Stover and Lucille Burkhart; and by his brother, John Gooley.

In December 1989 he married Violet Hull, who survives. Along with his loving wife, Violet Gooley of South Bend, he is survived by a stepson and his wife, Michael Ross and Ruby Leonard of Culver, Ind.; four granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren; and by his sister, Clara Vance of Mishawaka, Ind.

Mr. Gooley graduated from Central High School and served in the Army infantry during World War II. He was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, South Bend, and was a lifetime member of VFW #360, Mishawaka.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 2120 E. Jefferson, South Bend. Rev. Terry Fisher, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial and military graveside services will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 6 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, where a wake service will be held at 3 p.m.
