Jack R. Gordon

April 26, 1921 - March 26, 2001

Services for Jack R. Gordon, 79, will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 30th, at the Scanio/Harper Funeral Home in Temple, Texas.

Mr. Gordon died on Monday, March 26th, in his residence. The body will be cremated.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Penny J. Hough; a granddaughter, Jenny K. Archie of Woodbridge, Va.; and by a great-grandson, Seth Archie, also of Woodbridge.

He was born on April 26th, 1921, in Urbana, Ill., to Mildred and O.E. Jefferson. He was raised and educated in Gilman, Ill. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1939, and was a member of the crew on the USS Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th, 1941, and spent the rest of the war with the Navy in the South Pacific. Mr. Gordon was discharged on Sept. 14, 1945, at the rank of chief petty officer.

Mr. Gordon met and married Evelyn P. Starn in 1944 while stationed at Port Hueneme, Calif.

After discharge he moved to South Bend, Ind., where he lived until 1983. He was employed in the automobile sales business with Moulder's and Ben Medow Dodge/Chrysler Motors. He retired in 1981, and in 1983 he moved to Temple, Texas.

Mr. Gordon was a lifetime member of Temple VFW Post 1820 and BPOE Lodge 183, and the Chapter 6 of The Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He was also an avid golfer and Notre Dame football fan.

A private memorial service will be held in the funeral home chapel on March 30th.

The family requests that, instead of flowers, memorials be made to Chapter 6 of The Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, 3919 River Road, Temple, TX 76502.
