Sister M. Ave Gorman

Jan. 8, 1915 - Jan. 7, 2002

Sister Maria Ave, C.S.C. (Catherine Patricia Gorman), 86, was born in San Francisco, Calif., on Jan. 8, 1915, to the late John F. Gorman and Alice McManus Gorman. Sister is survived by nieces and nephews in California.

Sister spent 54 years as an elementary teacher and all of those years were in the West: Utah, California, Idaho and Arizona. She taught mathematics in the middle grades and then, in 1974, was a tutor in Stella Maris School, La Jolla, Calif. Following her teaching career, Sister was active in pastoral ministry to the elderly in Utah and California. In 1991 she retired to Saint Catherine by the Sea and in 1999 came to Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Ind. Sister Marie Ave was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556.

Reception and wake on Thursday, Jan. 10, 4 p.m., Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame.

Funeral service on Friday, Jan. 11, 10:30 a.m., Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame.
