25, 2009NEW CARLISLE - Bernice M. Gorny, 88, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away, Friday, Christmas Day, December 25, 2009, in the home of her daughter. Bernice was born in South Bend, Indiana to Frank and Mary (Nowaczewski) Strzelecki and lived all her life in New Carlisle, IN. On May 31, 1941, Bernice married Joseph A. Gorny Sr., who preceded her in death on October 30, 1971. Surviving are her children, Joseph A. (Geraldine) Gorny, Jr. of South Bend, IN, John (Sandy) Gorny of North Liberty, IN, Joyce (Walter) Sobieralski of Mishawaka, IN, Patricia (Larry) Byrd of LaPorte, Geraldine (Robert) Kromkowski of South Bend, IN, and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Gorny of New Carlisle, IN. Sons, Robert David Gorny (1953) and David Allen Gorny (1997), precede her in death. Also surviving are grandchildren, Robert J. (Lori) Gorny, Kathleen (Kevin) Matuszak, Dawn Singleton, Tammy Gorny, Janet (David) Middleton, Judy (Allen) Pixely, Janice (Chris) DeLee, Scottie (Missy) Byrd, Becky (Kelly) Drews, Beth (Jason) Dipert, Brian Kromkowski, Justin Gorny, Kody Gorny; great grandchildren, Alex, Meghan, Emily, Bradley, Kaylie, Tyler, Caitlin, Emily, Dylan, Sydney, Addison, Zachary, Jared, Abbigail, Hope, Scottie Jr., Connor, Carson, Alexus, Jacob, & Olivia; sisters-in-law, Lucy Strzelecki, and Virginia Strzelecki; and a dear friend, Mary Davis. Sisters, Stella Kristofski, Alice Crick, and brothers, Joseph, Walter, Frank, Paul, and Richard Strzelecki all preceded her in death. Bernice was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church and the Altar & Rosary Society. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, New Carlisle, Indiana, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
