Harry Eugene Goss

Harry Eugene Goss, 89, of Arborwood Living Center, Granger, Ind., formerly of Magician Lake, Dowagiac, Mich., was born in Mishawaka, Ind., on June 1, 1914, to Rynaldo and Mini L. (Hissong) Goss. He was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area. He graduated from the former South Bend Central High School in January 1932.

 

On July 4, 1935, he married Jeanette Esther Schwartz in St. Paul Lutheran Church in South Bend, Ind. She preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 1985. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and a brother, Helen Reaves of South Bend, Kathryn Smith of Mishawaka and Karl Goss of Angola, Ind., and Tucson, Ariz.

 

Harry started his career at Bike Web in South Bend (1933-1937). He was plant superintendent of Smoler Brothers (1937-1949). In 1949 he went to Ball Band (Uniroyal, Inc.) of Mishawaka where he was a general foreman, retiring in 1970. In retirement he was a self-employed upholsterer.

Mr. Goss is survived by four children, Ronald Goss (Constance) of Salem, S.C., Sally McConnell (John) of South Bend, Gloria DeBuysser (Robert) of South Bend and Kent Goss (Nancy) of Eaton, Ind.; 12 grandchildren, Kelly (Jeffrey) Cowsert of South Bend, Mark (Constance) McLochlin of Granger, Ind., Sherri (Jack) McDonald of Germantown, Tenn., Kathy (Bryan) Landen of Bargersville, Ind., Karen (James) Bond of Bella Vista, Ark., Scot (Ruth) Goss of Knoxville, Tenn., Joy (Bret) Crumpton of Columbus, Ga., Juli (Curt) Neteland of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Bruce (Catia) Goss of Brazil, South America, Brad (Jennifer) Goss of Muncie, Ind., Brett (Stephanie) Goss of Muncie, Ind., and Jennifer (Spencer) Ritchie of Kokomo, Ind. He is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, with services directly following at 11 a.m. in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, corner of Auten Road and Laurel Road, South Bend. Cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riley Hospital for Children, 50 S. Meridian St., Suite 500, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Morning Star Funerals and Cremations, 21275 W. Cleveland Road, was entrusted with the arrangements.
