Helen B. Gray (Nov. 28, 1920 - Nov. 9, 1997)

SOUTH BEND - Helen B. (Madaras) Gray, 76, of South Taylor Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5:19 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9, in Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Gray was retired from the First Source Bank as an elevator operator. She was born on Nov. 28, 1920, in South Bend.

On May 23, 1946, in South Bend, as Helen B. Tschida, she married Stephen Madaras, who preceded her in death.

On March 18, 1994, she married Bernard Gray, who survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Lynn M. Bertman (David) of Mishawaka, Ind., and Sue Darnold (Chris) of South Bend; four grandchildren, Eric Bertman and Aaron Bertman of Mishawaka, and Chad Darnold and Scott Darnold of South Bend; and by a sister, Louise Harrington of Indiana.

Mrs. Gray was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church where she was a Eucharistic minister. She also belonged to the Harvest House and St. Ann's Society of the church, the Rum Village Neighborhood Association, The Golden Cluster of St. Hedwig, and was also a Democratic election clerk.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Our Lady of Hungary School.
