William C Grenert

March 21, 1927 - July 26, 1997

William C (Cecil) Grenert, 70, residing on New Road, South Bend, died Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend, after an illness. Mr. Grenert retired in 1986 from Allied Signal (Bendix Corporation), South Bend, after 33 years of service. He was born on March 21, 1927, in North Liberty and was a lifelong area resident.

 

On July 10, 1948, in Lakeville, he married Edna M. Sowers, who survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Jacqueline Carr of Irvine, Calif., Patricia V. Evans of Mishawaka, Linda L. Smith of St. Ives, England, Gail L. Grenert and Barbara Grenert, both of South Bend, one son, David W. Grenert of Lakeville; 11 grandchildren, Sean Carr, Christopher Carr, Matthew Evans, Sally Evans, Devon Smith, Michael Smith, Sara Smith, Dee Grenert, Scott Grenert, Laura Grenert and Krista Grenert; four sisters, Catherine Doerr, Sue LaGue and Joyce Grenert, all of South Bend and Mary Schlemmer of North Liberty; and four brothers, Jesse Grenert, John Grenert and George Grenert, all of South Bend and Elmer Grenert of Lakeville. One brother, Walter Grenert, one sister, Martha Warner and two infant sisters, all preceded in death.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30 at the Community Gospel Church in Bremen, Ind., with the Rev. David McGee officiating. Burial will follow in Fair Cemetery in North Liberty. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29 at the Palmer Funeral Home in

Lakeville and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

 

Mr. Grenert attended the Community Gospel Church in Bremen, was a World War II Navy veteran, and a member of the American Legion Post 363 in Lakeville as well as a member of UAW Local 9.
