William Gromski

September 30, 1913 – October 1, 2007

 

SOUTH BEND – William Gromski, 94, passed away on Monday, October 1, at 5:15am in Country Care West, South Bend.

 

William was born on September 30, 1913, in Joliet IL, to the late Jan and Frances (Mrozek) Gromski.  He was also preceded in death by his son, Ronald Gromski in 2000; a sister, Helen Simon, and a brother, Henry Gromski.  On May 29, 1939, he married Esther (Tafelski) in South Bend, who survives along with their daughter-in-law, Sharon Gromski of Osceola; a nephew, Jim Gromski of South Bend; granddaughter, Kathy Lee (David) Close of Osceola; great-grandson, Matthew Close; and by a brother, Walter (Mildred) Gromski of South Bend.

 

William was a member of St Hedwig Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, St Joseph Young Men’s Society, St Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Catholic Church, Ushers Club, formerly on the board of directors of St Joseph Funeral Home and St Joseph Cemetery.  He worked for Studebaker for 31 years and for Freeman-Spicer for 15 years.

 

Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm today, October 2, in St Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend.  A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 11am Wednesday, October 3, in the funeral home.  Entombment will follow at St Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend IN 46637.
