Edwin J. Grontkowski

Feb. 16, 1913 - April 10, 1999

Edwin J. ''Duke'' Grontkowski, 86, of South Warren Street in South Bend, Ind., passed away early on Saturday, April 10, in his home. Mr. Grontkowski retired from White House Manufacturing after 25 years of service, and was previously employed by the former Wilson Brothers.

Mr. Grontkowski was born on Feb. 16, 1913, in South Bend, to Joseph and Apolonia Grontkowski. On Sept. 7, 1935, he married Henrietta Niespodziany, who survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Ronald (Rose Marie) Grontkowski and Dennis ''Duck'' Grontkowski, both of Mishawaka, Ind.; six grandchildren, Lynne (Alan) Wright of Granger, Ind., Laurie Jo (Larry) Foor of South Bend, Lee Ann (Chris) Paluzzi of Osceola, Ind., Lisa (Jimmy) Reynolds of Granger, Leslie (Doug) Keck of Elkhart, Ind., and D.J. Grontkowski of Mishawaka; 11 great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Victoria Przybysz of South Bend.

He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Mr. Grontkowski was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Young Men's Society.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Adalbert Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m.
