Wesley L. Gropp

MISHAWAKA - Wesley L. Gropp, 78, of West 15th Street, Mishawaka, Ind., died at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, in St. Joseph Community Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 22, 1918, in Osceola, Ind., to John and Lida (Brown) Gropp, who both preceded him in death. Wesley was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Gropp, Elvin Gropp and Walter Gropp; and by a sister, Eileen Bressler.

On April 29, 1945, he married Ollie Mae Whitfield, who survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Karen S. Sherrill and son-in-law, Eugene Sherrill of Mishawaka, and two grandchildren, Nancy (Tom) Savage of Pensacola, Fla., and Brian Sherrill of Mishawaka; two sisters, Ruth (Arthur) Walford of California and Vera Fay of South Bend, Ind.; and two brothers, Bernard (Arenae) Gropp of Osceola and Roger (Karen) Gropp of South Bend.

He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran serving in the Asiatic-Pacific theater as a technical sergeant, was a member of the Carpenters Local 413, and was a former employee of Uniroyal and Studebaker.

Wesley was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Mishawaka, where he was active in many church ministries. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Bubb Funeral Chapel North.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
