Walter L. Grounds

Walter L. Grounds, 82, of Elizabeth Street, South Bend, passed away at 1:40 a.m., Saturday, after an illness in The Holy Cross Healthcare. Mr. Grounds was born on Sept. 4, 1913, in Harrisburg, Ill. and has lived in the South Bend area most of his life.

 

On Nov. 30, 1933, he married Valda R. Buck, who died on March 27, 1989.

Surviving are four daughters, Dixie Rospopo of South Bend, Sharon Oveson of Greenville, S.C., Judy Lott of Goshen and Kathy Blume of South Bend; a son, James Grounds of Indianapolis; 20 Grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Morgan of Reno, Nev. A son, Randall Grounds, preceded him in death in 1986.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, in the funeral home, with burial in the Highland Cemetery.

 

Mr. Grounds worked for the I&M Electric Co. for 41 years before retiring in 1975 as a line foreman.
