Oliver D. Grove

Oct 28, 1871 - July 29, 1949

Funeral services for Oliver D. Grove, 77, were held Sunday afternoon at the First Brethren Church, with Rev. W. I. Duker the officiating clergyman. A nephew of the deceased, Roscoe Burch, of Benton Harbor, Mich. Past Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge of the State of Michigan and 33d degree Mason, conducted the Masonic rites at the church. Kosciusko Lodge No. 418 of Milford attended in the body. The Masonic ritual was also used at the burial service at New Salem Cmetery. The pall bearers were Carl Gawthrop, Boyce Fuller, Fred Mathews, Wallance Robbins, Orvil Orn, and Perry Hoover. The Mishler Funeral Home was in charge.

Mr. Grove died at 6:10 a.m. Friday, July 29, at his home, after an illness of 9 months. He was born near Milford, October 28, 1871, the son of William and Nancy (Ziler) Grove. His parents had moved to this state from Cross Junction, Va,; just preceding the Civil War. On February 9, 1896, he married Miss Emma Daugherty. His occupation was that of cabinet maker and he had been employed at the Bedell Manufacturing Co., Inc., for the past several years. He was one of the few surviving members of the former Milford City band which was under the direction of his brother, the late Ziler Grove. He was a member of the First Brethren Church and Kosciuski Lodge No. 418 of Milford.

Surviving rlatives include his wife; one son Joe E. Grove, of South Bend; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Ruth) O'Toole, of South Bend, and Mrs. Bernard (Mildred) Pippenger, of INdianapolis; one brother, George Grove, of Leesburg; one sister, Mrs. Mary Catey, of Central Point, Oregon; 5 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
