Julius Grueger

            Mr. Grueger came to South Bend a half century ago from his native country, Germany, and before entering the grocery business in 1905 was employed by the Studebaker corporation, then the Studebaker Bros. company.  He retired in 1923.  His grocery was located at 602 North St. Louis boulevard.

            A member of Robert Blum lodge since shortly after coming here, Mr. Grueger had occupied the various chairs of that body and had been presented the Odd Fellows jewel, an honor awarded for 50 year’s membership.

            Surviving are his widow, Anna Fischer Grueger, whom he married Sept. 18, 1925: four children, George Grueger, Mrs. P.J. Goetzinger, Mrs. V.D. Gall and Mrs. R.H. Coil, all of South Bend; three brothers, Joseph Grueger, of South Bend, and Adolph and Robert Grueger of Butte, Mont., and two sisters in Germany.  He was born Nov. 3, 1860.
