Richard J. Grzesk

Richard J. Grzesk, 78, of North Sheridan Street in South Bend, Ind., passed away on Thursday, March 4, in his home. Mr. Grzesk was born on Feb. 16, 1921, in South Bend, to Bert M. and Antoinette (Malecki) Grzesk, and remained a lifelong resident. He retired in April 1985 as an industrial design engineer with Allied Signal-US Granules.

 

On Nov. 8, 1947, he married Alice F. Kapalczynski, who preceded him in death on June 25, 1994.

He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly A. Grzesk of South Bend and Pamela A. Grzesk of Indianapolis, Ind.; a son, Gregory A. (Carolyn) Grzesk of South Bend; two granddaughters, Marie and Sara Grzesk; and by a sister, Margaret Prentkowski of South Bend.

 

Mr. Grzesk was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Harvest House of St. Stanislaus Church, the American Legion Post 357 and Veterans of Foreign War #8749. He served in World War II as a medic in the 45th Infantry. He was also a member of the Dan O'Day Dance Club.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. today in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Rev. Terry E. Place officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, where the American Legion, Post 357, will conduct a military service. Friends called from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 5, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Rosary was held at 4 p.m.
