MISHAWAKA – Anthony “Tonie” Guerra, 79, of 219 W. 11th Street, died about 9 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Hospital after an illness. He was manager of the Mishawaka Utilities Wastewater Treatment Plant, before retiring in 1973. He also worked at Studebaker Corp. in South Bend. He was born Feb. 21, 1908 in Santarcangelo, DiRomagna, Italy, and lived in Mishawaka since 1911.

 

On Oct. 19, 1928, in Mishawaka he married Anita Maggioli. She died Dec. 12, 1984. Survivors include four grandchildren; and two sisters, Louise Amaral of Mishawaka and Pauline Meixel of South Bend. A daughter, Jo Ann Eisenstein, died in 1977.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Bavo’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Han’s-DeVos Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Mr. Guerra was an Army veterean of World War II, and a member of the DeAmicis Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360. He was a Red Coat volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital.
