SOUTH BEND - Elvira Gulliford, 89, of
St. Joseph's Care Center-West, formerly of 1214 E. Sorin St.,
died Wednesday in the nursing home. Mrs. Gulliford was a former
domestic worker. She was born April 17, 1906, in Cherokee, Ala.,
and had lived in South Bend since 1930.
Her husband, Lou Gulliford, died in 1948.
She is survived by three sisters, Lucille Dunson of South
Bend, Bernice Sweet of Charlotte, N.C., and Minnie Smith
of St. Louis; and three brothers, Owen Barton and Sam
Barton, both of South Bend, and Earl Barton of New York City. She
was a former member of Church of God Assembly.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Clark's
Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. Friends may
call two hours before services in the funeral home.
