SOUTH BEND - Helen Mar Gumz, 84, of
Belmont Avenue, died at 6:35 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's
Medical Center. Mrs. Gumz was a bookkeeper for the Elmer Gumz
Farms, North Liberty. She was born June 5, 1909, in Camden, N.J.,
moving to South Bend in 1941, from Chicago.
On Feb. 8, 1935, in Chicago, as Helen M. Nicholson,
she married Elmer O. Gumz. He died Nov. 27, 1969. Surviving are a
daughter, Linda M. Condon of Houston; a son, Stephen E. of
North Liberty; five grandchildren; one sister, Anna Marie
Nicholson of South Bend; and two brothers, Howard Nicholson of
Gurnee, Ill., and Mark Nicholson of Honolulu.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Hickey
Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson. Burial will be in St. Joseph
Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m.
Monday and one hour before services Tuesday in the funeral home.
