Albert B. Gushwa

Albert B. Gushwa, 85, of South Bend, Ind., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, in Hospice House, S outh Bend. He was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Remington, Ind., to the late William and Allie (Ulm) Gushwa.

 

On Aug. 1, 1953, in South Bend, he married the former Verna Layton, who survives. He is also survived by his son, Jerry (Lisa) Gushwa of South Bend; and two grandchildren, Alexandra and Tyson Gushwa; a sister, Dorothy Biskey of Applegate, Mich.; a brother, Leo Gushwa of Flint, Mich.; and by several nieces and nephews.

 

Mr. Gushwa lived in South Bend for 45 years, coming from Remington, Ind. He retired from Reinke Construction Company after 25 years service and also worked for Taylor Products in Elkhart, Ind. Albert was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. He was an avid fisherman and excellent woodworker, and loved working in his yard taking care of all his living things.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call in the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today.
