Aug. 20, 1928 - Feb. 5, 2009
MISHAWAKA - Ruth E. Gushwa, 80, of Mishawaka, passed away on Thursday, February 5th in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Ruth was born in Mishawaka on August 20, 1928 to the late Howard and Jennie (Mallory) Gerard. On October 2, 1945 in South Bend she married Lewis H. Gushwa. They shared 52 years of love and devotion to each other. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1997. She retired from Raco in 1986 after 40 years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 360. She enjoyed ceramics and crocheting. Ruth is survived by her four children; Judy (Gene) Grenert, of Granger, Lewis (Judy) Gushwa, of Kokomo, Stacy (Michael) Grattenthaler, of Mishawaka, and Tracy (Tina) Gushwa, of Mishawaka. She was the grandmother of six; Judy (Mal) Mihajlovich, of Granger, Gene (Mary) Grenert, of Goshen, Bonnie (Bill) Kempf, of Noblesville, Megan (Jody) Saige, of Goshen, Amber (Jay) Gardner, of Mishawaka, and Michael Gushwa, also of Mishawaka, along with 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Betty (John) Graber, of Elkhart. She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Smith and a brother, William Gerard. Friends may visit with the family from 1 until 5 pm, on Sunday, February 8th in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. Funeral services celebrating Ruth's life will be held at 11 am, Monday, February 9th in the funeral chapel with Rev. J. Mark Muncy officiating. Burial is to follow in the Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
