SOUTH BEND - Bernice M. Gustafson, 87, of Scenic Drive, South Bend, Ind., died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, Ind. Bernice was born on Sept. 30, 1910 in South Bend, Ind., to Harry and Laura E. (Kern) Woltman and was a lifetime resident.

On November 19, 1931 as Bernice Woltman, she married Fred W. Gustafson, who preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1976. She is survived by one daughter, Kathryn M. Gustafson of South Bend; two sons, Tom Gustafson and Donald Gustafson both of South Bend; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Dorothy Gaylor of South Bend and one brother, Edward C. Woltman of Avon Park, Fla. Bernice was preceded in death by one brother, Jerome.

Bernice retired as a custom seamstress making custom draperies for Sears, Roebuck and Company. She was an active volunteer in the Christ Child Society and the Community Resource Center. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

A Funeral Mass will be held for Bernice at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Cremation will take place after the Mass. Visitation for Bernice will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, Ind., where a rosary will be recited at 5 p.m.
