Arthur F. Gygi

Arthur F. Gygi, 83 years old, residing at Holy Cross Care & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, passed away at 1:55 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2000 at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend.

 

Mr. Gygi was born on November 10, 1916 in Elkhart, IN to the late Frank and Helen (Schuelke) Gygi. He had been a lifelong area resident, living in Elkhart for over 35 years.

 

Mr. Gygi was the former owner and operator of Arthur F. Gygi Insurance Agency for 30 years. He also owned and operated Arthur F. Gygi Mobile Home Finance Company. He worked at Foster Machine Company in Elkhart and South Bend Tool and Die Corporation besides farming three farms in Elkhart County. Mr. Gygi was a 53 year member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkhart, past president of the Fraternal Order of Police in Elkhart, past president and chairman of the advisory board in Cleveland Township, and past president and founding member of the Cleveland Township's first volunteer fire department.

 

Survivors include his former wife, Helen Gygi of Port Tobacco, Maryland; one daughter, Wendy S. (Richard) Palumbo of Port Tobacco, Maryland; two sons, Robert A. Gygi of Tucson, AZ and Richard W. (Bonni) Gygi of Franklin, TN; eight grandchildren, Corie, Bobbi Ann, Chad, and Patrick Gygi, Kimberly Massey, Jennifer, Suzanne, and Christopher Gygi; three great- grandchildren, Rohland and Ehryn Gygi, and Mary Riley Massey; and three sisters, Velda L. Pratt of Mishawaka, Lois Sheler of Osceola, and Marjorie Phillipi of Niles, MI.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2000 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 400 W. Blvd. South, Elkhart, IN. Rev Robert G. Schallhorn, pastor, will officiate.

 

Graveside services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Osceola.

 

Friends may visit with the family from 4 - 8 p.m. on Monday, June 5, at the Palmer Funeral Home, 1109 Lincolnway West, Osceola, IN and after 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
