Sister Edward Joseph CSC, 49, head of the mathematics department at St. Mary’s College, died this morning in St. Joseph Hospital, Ann Arbor, Mich., where she underwent surgery last week. She was born Dorothy Hackett, Feb. 1, 1901 in New Albany, Ind., and taught at St. Mary’s the last 15 years. She entered the Holy Cross Community in 1922 and was professed in 1927. She was graduated from St. Mary’s College and received her master’s degree from the University of Note Dame. Before her appointment to the faculty at St. Mary’s she taught in St. Agnes School in Los Angeles; Sacred Heart Academy in Lancaster, Pa.; St. Paul’s School in New York City; and St. Joseph’s Academy in South Bend. Also since 1943 she had been director of Camp Marie Du Lac, a children’s summer camp at Lakeside, Mich.

 

Services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Mary’s Convent church and burial will be in the community cemetery.
