Sister Mary Ida Hafeli

Sister Mary Ida Hafeli, 63, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died there Thursday. She was born May 31, 1924 in San Diego as Pauline Alice Hafeli. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s on June 9, 1943 and was received as a novice Feb. 2, 1944. She professed her vows on Aug. 15, 1946. She was assigned to teaching in elementary schools conducted by the Sister of Holy Cross and served in California, Idaho and Utah from 1946 to 1961. In 1962 she was assigned to Holy Cross Hospital, Salt Lake City, for duties in accounting and purchasing until 1974 when she was assigned to St. Catherine’s Convent, Ventura, Calif., as staff assistant. In 1983 she came to St. Mary’s and was assigned to the mailroom and served that department until 1986.

 

Services will be at 8 a.m. Thursday in the Church of Loretto with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s. Friends may call today in the convent, where a wake service will be at 7 p.m.
