Charles F. Hafron, 80, of San Francisco, formerly of 323 W. Navarre St., died at 8pm Monday in Hill Haven Nursing Home, San Francisco.  Hickey Funeral Home Cleveland Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Services for Charles F. Hafron, 80, of San Francisco, formerly of 323 W. Navarre St., who died at 7:45pm Monday at Hill Haven Nursing Home, San Francisco, will be at 10am Saturday at Sacred Heaert Church, University of Notre Dame.  Burial will be at Highland Cemetery.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 8pm Friday at Hickey Funeral Home Cleveland Road Chapel.  Memorial contributions may be made to the St Joseph County Heart Association or the Notre Dame Alumni Club.

 

Mr. Hafron retired from the South Bend Community School Corp after 30 years service.  He was a science teacher at the former Central High School and Riley High School and also was football coach at Riley.

 

He was born September 15, 1907, in Toledo, and lived in South Bend until moving to San Francisco in 1964.  On August 3, 1935, in South Bend, he married Helen G. Grimm, who survives.  Also surviving are a daughter, Heidi Bland of Dillwyn VA; a son, Rick of St Louis and six grandchildren.

 

He was a former member of St Patrick Catholic Church, a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and played football under Knute Rockne.  He was a veteran of WW II and the Korean War, having served as a captain in the Navy Reserve
