Nov. 21, 1915 - Feb. 5, 1999 SOUTH BEND -

Joseph F. Halasz, 83, of St. Paul’s Retirement Community, formerly of East Victoria Street, passed away at 9:31 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, in Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. Mr. Halasz retired in 1979 from the County-City Building where he worked for nine years. He also had been employed by Drewry’s Brewery for 27 years. Joe had also been a volunteer with Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 21, 1915, in Clarksburg, W. Va., to Michael and Marie Bertalan, who both preceded him in death. After his parents’ death, Joseph was adopted by Alex and Helen Halasz. They preceded him in death, along with a brother, James Bertalan. On June 1, 1946, he married Frances Harrison, who died in April 1966. He then married Alice Nadolny on April 11, 1970. She also preceded him in death on Feb. 8, 1979. He is survived by a daughter, Linda (Mike) Dragoun of Lakeville, Ind., two grandchildren, Michele Clark of Lakeville and Jeffrey Clark of North Liberty, Ind.; a great-grandchild, Cassandra King of Lakeville; and by a sister, Mary Lucas of Richmond Heights, Ohio. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, in St. Matthew Cathedral. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bishop Crowley Education Fund, c/o St. Matthew Cathedral School, 1015 E.
