Rev. John J. Haley CSC, 73, of Tenn. Formerly of South Bend, died Thursday in Methodist Hospital South, Memphis. He was born June 11, 1913 in Sewickley, Pa. He was ordained in 1941 and served as Prefect of Religion at the University of Notre Dame. From 1946 to 1948 he was assistant pastor of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in South Bend. He moved to Chile in 1948 and received the O’Higgins Medal from the president of Chile for his work for the poor. In 1961 he returned to South Bend where he waorked as assistant pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He moved to Austin, Texas in 1967, where he was assigned to the San Jose Parish until 1975. From 1975 to 1977 he administered the Annunciation Parish in New Orleans. In 1977 he was assigned to the San Francisco Parish in Austin, Texas. During his last assignment he served as the chaplain to the Marianite Sisters of Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent in New Orleans.

 

Wake services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in San Francisco Church, Austin, and burial will be Monday in Assumption Cemetery in Texas. A funeral mass will be said at 2 p.m. Monday in San Francisco Church.
