Mary K. Hamman

Mary K. Hamman, 89, died Friday, July 5, in the Comfort & Care in Mission Viejo, Calif.

She was born in Binghamton, N.Y., on June 14, 1913. Mary graduated from Binghamton High School, attended the Bible Institute of Pennsylvania, 1931- 1933, and took nurses training at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, N.Y., from 1933 to 1936. Mary went to Africa in 1937 to serve as a missionary nurse.

 

She married Rev. Roy G. Hamman of Mishawaka, Ind., in 1952, who was also a missionary in Africa. From 1957 to 1972 they lived in Mishawaka while her husband was pastor of First Baptist Church. They retired to Maranatha Village, Sebring, Fla., in 1978. Rev. Hamman died March 2, 1996. Mrs. Hamman moved to California in 2001. Mrs. Hamman was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church of Sebring, Baptist Mid-Missions, and various nursing associations.

 

Mary is survived by four sons, Donald (Judy) Hamman of Oceanside, Calif., Richard Hamman of Monmouth, Ore., David (Barbara) Hamman of Brighton, Mich., and Charles (Judy) Divine of Coto de Cava, Calif.; and by 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, and one hour prior to services in the church on Saturday. Funeral services will be held in the First Baptist Church of Mishawaka at noon Saturday, with Rev. David Miller officiating.

Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mission Fund at First Baptist Church of Mishawaka.
