Susan L. Hamman

Susan L. Hamman, 64, residing on West Lawrence Street, Mishawaka, Ind., died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, May 22, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind. She was born on April 29, 1940, in South Bend, to Stephen and Cleo (Fritz) Mellinger Sr., and was a lifelong area resident.

 

On Feb. 14, 1961, in South Bend, she married Jimmie L. Hamman Sr., who survives. Along with her loving husband of 43 years, Jimmie Hamman Sr. of Mishawaka, she is survived by three daughters, Jeanette (Sal) Nijak of South Bend, and Laura Hamman and Stephanie Dillard, both of Mishawaka; one son, Jimmie L. Hamman Jr. of South Bend; three grandchildren, Becky Nijak, Katie Nijak and Justin Dillard; one sister, Pat Donnelly of South Bend; and four brothers, Stephen (Irene) Mellinger II of Santa Clarita, Calif., Thomas J. Mellinger of Los Angeles, Calif., Richard (Lindsey) Mellinger of Granger, Ind., and Timothy S. Mellinger of Tampa, Fla.

 

Susan graduated from South Bend Adams High School and attended Indiana University of South Bend. She loved painting and flowers. She owned and operated a ceramic shop, and had been an auctioneer.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Joseph Illes, deacon of The Cathedral of St. James, will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Susan L.
