Monta M. Hammock

MISHAWAKA - Monta M. Hammock, 97, of Mishawaka, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2008 at Fountainview Place in Mishawaka. Monta was born on April 30,1911 in Pickwick, TN. to the late Thomas B. & Nannie (Fields) Hammock. On October 14, 1933, Monta married the former Mildred L. Gibson in Etowah, AR. Monta and Mildred were married for sixty-eight years. Mildred passed away in 2001. Surviving Monta is his two sons, Jerry (Kathy) Hammock of Arkansas and Don (Nancy) Hammock of Granger, IN. Monta was a loving & caring grandfather to five grandchildren, Jerra (Doug) Barnes of LaPorte, IN, John (Christy) Hammock of Edwardsburg, MI., Heather (Matt) Blank of Granger, IN., Rachel (Paul) VanVynckt of Mishawaka, IN, Jan (Gary) Rakow of Indianapolis, IN., an a great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren, Shawn & Taylor Hammock of Edwardsburg, MI., Amanda Perdue, Sarah Beery of Indianapolis, IN, Jessica & Rebecca Barnes of LaPorte, IN, Dillon & Dalton Blank of Granger, IN and one step great-grandson Derrick McKelvey of Granger, IN. Monta was previously employed at Bendix Corp. until he was laid-off. He then owned & operated a Gulf Gasoline Service Station for eight years, which was his pride and joy. He retired in 1976 from Dodge Reliance Manufacturing after 10 years of service. Monta was a Free & Accepted Mason from the Predonia Lodge #229 of Ball Knob, Arkansas.

 

The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Bubb Funeral Chapel 3910 N. Main St. Mishawaka, IN. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, November 6, 2008 at that funeral home with the Rev. Ervin Mize officiating. Burial is to follow the service at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger.
