Mrs. Katherine Hammond

Mrs. Katherine Hammond, 60, of 518 W. Front St., New Carlisle, died at 10:35 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital, after an illness of nine months. She was born on July 28, 1922, in Helena, Ohio, and had lived in New Carlisle for 32 years, moving there from South Bend. On June 10, 1946, in South Bend, as Katherine Gwee, she married Vern W. Hammond, who died on July 1, 1983. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Denice Meyers of New Carlisle; two sons, Douglas and Donald, both of New Carlisle; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Mack of Winamac and Mrs. Alice Elder of Miami, Fla.; and a brother, Robert Gwee  of Niles.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday  in the H. C. Amen and Son Funeral Home, New Carlisle, with Rev. Ernest Geist, pastor of Community church, officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Cemetery, New Carlisle. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 297 of New Carlisle.
