SOUTH BEND - Bernadine Josephine Hanig, 71, of Vernon Drive, South Bend, Ind., died at 11:50 p.m. on Friday, March 20, in her home. She was born on Sept. 24, 1926, in South Bend and she was a lifelong area resident. She retired May 1, 1993 from Wells Electronics after 27 years of service.

She was married on Feb. 2, 1949, in South Bend, as Bernadine Kaniecki, to Kenneth A. Hanig. He died on Jan. 23, 1990. She is survived by a son, Dr. Kenneth M. Hanig of South Bend; two grandsons, Christopher Graham of Bloomington, Ind., and Justin Kingsley of South Bend; and by a brother, Stanley Kaniecki of South Bend. Mrs. Hanig was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Women of the Moose Lodge 1057.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton, Wis.
