Betty K. Hans

April 14, 1916 - May 7, 1997

Betty K. Hans, 81, of 206 E. Marion Street, South Bend, Ind., formerly of 5418 Miami Road, died at 6:25 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, in the Milton Home.

Mrs. Hans was born on April 14, 1916, in South Bend, to Paul and Eula Fitch.

On Feb. 27, 1934, in Rochester, Ind., she married Albert J. Hans, who preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1986. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Susan and Judy, and by her sister Virginia in 1995.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John P. and Sherry Hans of Edwardsburg, Mich.; two grandchildren, John W. Hans and Susan Stewart, both of Edwardsburg; six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Patrick and Tiffany Stewart, Ciji, Christina and Anthony Hans, all of Edwardsburg; and by a sister, Miriam Harvey of South Bend.

Mrs. Hans and her husband owned and operated the Hans Haus Restaurant in South Bend, retiring in 1986.

Mrs. Hans graduated as valedictorian from Riley High School in 1934, which was the first four-year class to graduate from Riley.

Betty was very active and held office in many organizations: the MishaBend Kiwanians, Phi Beta Psi, the St. Joseph County Hearing and Speech Association, the Indiana Restaurant Association, the MerriTime Dance Club, International Plate Collectors, the Elbel 9-Hole Golf League, United Methodist Women, the Mary Martha Circle of Grace United Methodist Church, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Corvilla, a 50-year member of White Shrine 10, Order of Eastern Star, and the Grace United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home. Entombment is in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
