Jeanette M. Hanson

SOUTH BEND - Jeanette M. Hanson, 86, passed away after an illness at 8:40 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, in her residence. She was born in Sturgis, Mich.

 

On Feb. 1, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., as Jeanette Eckstein, she married Bert Hanson, who preceded her in death on May 4, 1954. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia Hanson and Jacqueline Cashen, a stillborn son, William, as well as two sisters, Irene and Mary Eckstein, and four brothers, Francis, Henry, Terrance and Morris.

 

She lived in South Bend from 1968 to 1983 and returned to this area from Chicago in May 1992. She was retired from the Sears Catalog Sales Department.

 

Mrs. Hanson is survived by eight children, including six daughters, Darlene (Sr. Clarita, SHCJ) of Lagos, Nigeria, Sharai Keating of Villa Park, Ill., Peggy Hanson of South Bend, Ind., Lois Orlick of Wood Dale, Ill., Kathy McDermott of Houston, Texas and Mary Hanson of Milwaukee, Wis.; her two sons, Robert of San Diego, Calif. and John of Elgin, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and by a brother, James of Front Royal, Va.

 

The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated for her at 4 p.m. on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a member, at the corner of Hill and LaSalle streets. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the church where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove, Ill. McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, was entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Parish, 226 N. Hill Street, South Bend, IN 46617.
