Chester E. Harper

     Chester E. Harker, (Hap Mason), 79, of 1101  Liberty Drive, died at noon
Monday in Memorial Hospital in South Bend after a  two-month illness. Born in
South Bend on Dec. 15, 1899, he had lived in the area  all his life. He was a
metal lather, drummer and entertainer, and was a member  of Local 82, Metal
Lathers.
     In Angola, Ind., in 1958, he married Marie  Mason, who survives, with
three daughters, Mrs. Harold Sanford of Battle Creek,  Mich., Mrs. Edward Daniels
of Cloverdale, Mich., and Mary Jo Harker of Mishawka  two sons, Richard
Donald of Sturgis and James of Osceola; 13 grandchildren; 12  great-grandchildren,
and three brothers, Charles and Kenneth, both of Colton,  Calif., and Albert
of Mishawaka. Friends may call from 2 to 4  and 7 to 9  p.m. Wednesday in the
Bubb Funeral Chapel.
