Doris C. Harris

March 30, 1938 - Feb. 9, 1997

Doris C. (Bogan) Harris, 58, of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away following an extended illness at 4:05 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, in her daughter's residence.

She was born March 30, 1938, in Somerville, Tenn., to the union of Ural Samuel and Indiana (Watkins) Carpenter, who both preceded her in death, along with three sisters and three brothers.

Mrs. Harris graduated from Tennessee State University in 1960, where she was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority. She retired from the St. Joseph County Department of Public Welfare after many years of service. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church when she moved from Nashville, Tenn., in 1965, and later joined Berean and Bethany S.D.A Churches. In July of 1987 she married Elder Carmen Harris, who survives.

She is also survived by two daughters, Maria L. Mitchell and Kara J. Hunter, and son-in-law, Milton L. Hunter; one son, Romney U. Bogan; one granddaughter, Alyssa J. Hunter; two grandsons, Christopher J. Hunter and Joshua D. Mitchell, all of South Bend; two brothers, Eddie (Rose) Carpenter of South Bend, and Milton (Eleanor) Carpenter of Inglewood, Calif.; also nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, in New Salem Baptist Church, with Rev. John Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.

Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, in Alford's Mortuary.
