SOUTH BEND - Eleanor Jean Harris, 77, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend. Eleanor was born on May 23, 1930, in South Bend, to Cyril and Naomi (Hammond) Claflin. Sisters, Evelyn Schroder and Lavona Scott, both preceded her in death. Eleanor is survived by her loving husband, Phillip of 40 years; her daughter, Patti (Michael) Biggs of South Bend; two stepchildren, Phillip Jr. of Silver Springs, Maryland, and Kimberly Ann of Crawfordsville, Indiana; and two grandchildren, whom she adored, Brianne and Adam Biggs. She will also be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews, along with a multitude of friends.

 

She retired from AT&T, formerly Indiana Bell, in December 1983 after 33 years of service. Eleanor was a life member of the AT&T Pioneers, and a 1948 graduate of Central High School. Eleanor and her husband raced quarter horses throughout the Midwest and spent many enjoyable days following their grandchildren's sporting events.

 

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery.
