Joyce M. Harris

Joyce M. (Wallace) Harris, 71, residing in South Bend, passed away at 12:36 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2006 in Clarian Health-Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. She was born July 5, 1935, in Lakeville, IN as the daughter of Charles and Ruby (Baumgardner) Wallace, and had remained a lifelong resident of Saint Joseph County. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gene and Jon Wallace.

 

In 1957, in Lakeville, she married Richard K. Harris. She is survived by her husband, Richard, of 49 years. Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Rockhill of South Bend and Debra (Larry) Williams of Auburn, IN; and a son, Todd Harris of South Bend. Four grandchildren, Craig Swift, Megan Swift, Stephanie Swift, and Sarah Williams survive Joyce as well. She is also survived by two brothers, Carl (Jeanette) Wallace of South Bend, and Larry (Juanita) Whiteman of Indianapolis.

 

Joyce was a graduate of Lakeville High School. She was a former employee of Teacher's Credit Union in South Bend, where she worked as a bookkeeper. She also worked for On-line Data Company. She was a former member and deacon of First Christian Church of South Bend, and worked with the World Outreach Ministry of the Church. She and Dick were members of Southlawn United Methodist Church in South Bend. She also was a former Mother Advisor with Rainbow Girls.

 

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2006, in Southlawn Cemetery, 61300 U.S. 31 South, South Bend. Rev. Don Carpenter, pastor of Southlawn United Methodist Church will officiate. There was a private visitation for the family on Friday evening at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel.
