William John Harrison

SOUTH BEND - William John Harrison, 62, of South Bend, IN, passed away on November 22, 2008. Born November 10, 1946, in South Bend, he was the son of the late Absolum and Kathryn Harrison. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, William, Donald and Melvin; and by two sisters, Doris and Kathryn. On November 24, 1974, William married Gail C. (Alsup) Harrison. She survives in South Bend. He is also survived by two sons, Harley (Vickie) Harrison of SB and Shawn (Christina) Harrison of SB; two daughters, Tina (Troy) Sloan of South Carolina and Sonja Harrison of Elkhart; one brother Robert (Linda) Harrison of SB; nine grandchildren, and one granddaughter due in February. William was the best husband and father anyone could ask for. His motto was always "Family First!" He was a big NASCAR fan, and his favorite driver was #24, Jeff Gordon. He was also a big fan of Notre Dame and the South Carolina Game Cocks. He was a proud Army veteran, and was a member of American Legion Post 50.

 

Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. with a service at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, in the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel, Ironwood Drive. As a last wish of his, the family encourages casual attire but, if possible, please come dressed in NASCAR attire, showing off your favorite driver. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
