Catherine I. Hart, 74, of South Bend, Ind., formerly of LaPorte, Ind., died Sunday in her home in South Bend. Catherine was a graduate of Saint Mary's College with a Bachelors degree in education, and received her Masters from the University of Notre Dame. She retired in 1987, from Labors International of Washington, D.C. after 16 years.

She was also a former Holy Cross Sister who taught in the South Bend Schools for many years, and was Principal at St. Mary's School, Michigan City, Ind. Catherine was born on Sept. 26, 1922, in Michigan City; she was the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Ball, who preceded her in death. A sister, Louise Simonson, and a brother, Charley Hart, also preceded her in death. She is survived by three sisters, Mary Graham of LaPorte, Patricia Kohne of Carmel, Ind. and Margaret Muinch of South Bend; two brothers, George Hart of Bloomington, Ind. and John Hart of New York City.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. (South Bend time) in the Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's. Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. until services in the Church of Loretto. Graveside services will follow at 11:45 a.m. (South Bend time) at Pine Lake Cemetery in LaPorte. Memorials may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc., or to the donor's choice. The Hickey Funeral Homes, South Bend, are in charge of arrangements.
