Virginia F. Harter

SOUTH BEND - Virginia F. Harter, 93, a lifelong resident of South Bend and Mishawaka, passed away May 20, 2008. Born July 16, 1914, in South Bend, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Edna Eby.

 

In 1934 she married Vermont C. Harter, who preceded her in death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence T. Eby, and by a niece, Claudia Eby. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Harter of South Bend; a brother, Douglas L. (Dorothy) Eby of Nevada; a sister-in-law, Claudine Eby of Illinois; two nieces, Jane (John) David and Jennifer Fisher, both of Illinois; nephews, David Eby of California, Donald Eby of Nevada and William Korner of Pennsylvania; and three great-nieces, Kimberly Bruch, Kelley Eby and Courtney Eby. Mrs. Harter graduated from Central High School and attended North Central College in Naperville, IL. She was formerly employed by Wilson Bros. for a year, Bike Web for eight years and Clemans Truck Line and Tucker Freight Line for 35 years. She retired in 1979 as a freight accountant. She was a member of the Coalbush United Methodist Church and was a 60-year member of the School Men's Wives' Club.

 

Friends may call Friday, May 23, 2008, in the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel, Ironwood Road, from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Coalbush United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Coalbush United Methodist Church or to the Broadway Christian Parish United Methodist Church.
