Sister M. Agnes A. Harty

Oct. 20, 1906 - July 28, 2000

Sister M. Agnes Angela (Agnes Delight Harty) C.S.C., died on Friday, July 28, in Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Ind.

 

Sister M. Agnes Angela was born on Oct. 20, 1906, in Kinsman, Ill., to the late Daniel Emmett Harty and Agnes Sheedy Harty. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1929, made her first profession in 1931, and her final profession in 1934.

 

Sister taught school in Illinois before entering the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. She continued teaching in elementary schools in Ohio, 16 years, Maryland for 5 years, Washington, D.C., Illinois, nearly 11 years and Indiana, 21 years. Sister taught 14 years at the Campus School on the Saint Mary's Campus, 1955-1969.

As part of her teaching duties, Sister was in School administration at Saint Matthew's School in Washington, D.C., and at Saint Patrick's School (Holy Family) Danville, Ill. She was also Director of the Learning Center and Librarian at Saint Patrick's. In Elkhart, Ind., Sister worked in the Learning Center at Saint Thomas School. She retired to Rosary Convent, Saint Mary's in 1988 and entered into the Apostolate of Prayer at Saint Mary's Convent until her death.

 

Sister Agnes Angela is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Roger Connor, their four children, and many other nieces and nephews.

Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's Notre Dame.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 31, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, followed by interment at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's Notre Dame, Ind. 46556.
